NBC Rejects PETA Thanksgiving Day Parade Ad



From the PETA blog:

“When we first submitted our newest commercial to NBC in the hopes of running it during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the station asked us to give more information about the cruelty behind turkey slaughter to back up the statements made in the ad. But even after we sent the network this New York Times article chronicling the grisly facts about turkey factory farming, it nixed the ad, claiming that “this commercial does not meet NBC Universal standards.”

How many of you had/will have turkey today? Also, how lulzy is it that we're one of their friends given that so many members hate them?

As some sat down on Thursday to eat deep-fried turkeys and honey roasted ham, many people around the U.S. were enjoying a dinner of crudites, sweet potato sticks, green bean casserole, winter salad, apple stuffing, gravy, Tofurky, tofu chocolate mousse pie, and pumpkin "cheese"-cake.

In honor of animals, here is a collection of some of your favorite celebrities who posed for print ads to draw attention to the animal rights cause. There are also new ads from the model Joanna Krupa, the group Rise Against, and the band Chiodos's Craig Owens.

Baby Smiley continued her mission of turning all of us into chola beauties by taking her Sharpie to Sandra Bullock's eyebrows on Lopez Tonight last night. Sandra agreed to the chola makeover, because she said she wanted to become "more Latin." I was waiting for my abuelita's chankla to hit her and George Lopez in the mouth after that was said.

When Sandra came out as "La Nalgona," an oldies song didn't play in my head and I didn't flinch like a hot razor was about to slice my cheek open. You know, Sandra's canvas just doesn't have what it takes to pull off the chola look. Sandra looked more like a deflated Michaela Romanini.

And if you can't look like a chola who can give a ten-week hickey in five seconds, then you might as well look like Michaela Romanini. So Sandra should keep up the makeover.

Natalie Portman arrived at the New York City Ballet opening night gala this week wearing a Vena Cava Spring 2010 navy and white printed dress.

I would’ve thought going to a ballet required a look more regal and elegant.
This look could just as easily have been worn to run errands in.

I love the dress, but not for this occasion.

I just finished wiping away the tears of laughter as I just discovered that the Weinstein Company and Dimension Films are planning on remaking The Amityville Horror...again. Andrew Douglas directed the 2005 reboot produced by Platinum Dunes that grossed over $100m at the box office worldwide. I guess five years in the new 25? Our sources also tell us that there just might be a director already in talks to develop the project. Knowing Dimension Films, I'd expect this project to start and stop at least a dozen times before it ultimately fails. Alas horror fiends, don't stress it no matter how idiotic this sounds.The original 1979 film followed newlyweds as they move into a house where a murder was committed, and experience strange manifestations which drive them away. MGM also retains different rights and were planning on developing The Amityville Tapes, which has been put on the back burner while MGM figures out their financial woes (auction anyone?).

This is Kate's first Thanksgiving in a decade without soon-to-be-ex husband Jon, and she's estranged from her brother Kevin Kreider who reconciled with Jon last month -- follow that? -- so who better to share turkey with than the Neilds? She’s all that, and she’s frequently late. Which is why we recorded this interview cutting through dense LA traffic, desperately trying to get her back to the Standard Hotel in Hollywood. i had a fabulous thanksgiving, btw. i still feel really stuffed from all the food we consumed and i have leftovers for several days. the only thing we completely forgot in our cooking marathon: cranberry sauce. ooops. i still really want it because it's awesome in turkey sandwiches!

tomorrow, i'm heading to the mall with a friend who's agreed to tag along [she does not yet know what she's in for, lol]. i don't have anything i want to buy in particular unless i get some really good deals. i've been very lucky with black friday deals in the past [hello, $20 cashmere sweater i bought two years ago] even though i only start my shopping day after noon :D

We had a nice, quiet Thanksgiving, just myself, my son, and my daughter. My husband's in the hospital (he went in a week ago Wednesday) but he should be coming home on Saturday.

I may be even more of a lurker than I normally am as my computer crashed a couple of days ago. Everything should be backed up, but it will still take a little time to be fixed as the man who works on our computers is busy with the holidays right now. In the meanwhile, I'm using my husband's old one. It works fine, but I'm not as comfortable typing on it.

There were rumblings a few months back that shooting had begun on a remake of Meir Zarchi's I Spit On Your Grave with Steven R. Monroe (It Waits) behind the camera to direct for CinTel Films. Now, IMDB (via Arrow In The Head) uncovered a list of the full cast for the feature which Anchor Bay Entertainment is co-producing.

Sarah Butler, Chad Lindberg, Daniel Franzese, Rodney Eastman, Jeff Branson, Saxon Sharbino, Amber Dawn Landrum and Andrew Howard all star in the update of I Spit On Your Grave.

The only recognizable names amongst the bunch are Eastman who played Joey in A Nightmare On Elm Street 3 and 4 and Chad Lindberg who did several episodes of Supernatural and appeared in The Fast and The Furious. Sarah Butler tackles the role of Jennifer orignated by Camille Keaton.

Based on the 1978 film, I Spit On Your Grave is the story of a woman who is brutally attacked, raped, and left for dead in the wilderness. She survives to hunt down her assailants and methodically, graphically takes her vengeance. More when we hear it.
